The Night Sky

1:16 AM | Sept. 4, 2018

I was walking home, it was around 10:30 PM, in Union Square. A long line at the ice cream truck. The late diners and bar lovers of summer had disappeared with the end of summer. The red glow of the "Coffee" sign on University Place was empty, where many usually sat. And it was blisteringly hot. The usual square filled with people, singers, chess players and lovers, was unusually quiet, especially for this early hour.

In the distance, among the glow of street lights, car lights and windows of storefronts, it tapered into darkness. And two beams of light coming from the ground in lower Manhattan were so softly, strongly contrasted against the night sky, where I often in daylight can always see the One World Trade center during the light.
